The Dionaea muscipula cultivar ‘B52’ can grow huge traps over 2 inches in length. Although ironically appropriate, the fly trap did not receive its name from the large B-52 bomber, but “B52” was simply a code that the original grower, Henning Von Schmeling, used to identify different specimens.

Henning selected this plant because of its vigorous growth and brightly colored traps that are up to 5.7 cm (2.25 inches) long under conditions that produce smaller traps in most other varieties.
